Youth Delegates at the UN

Is your country sending a youth delegate to the UN General Assembly?

This year marks an important year for young people at the United Nations: In the 60th Session of the General Assembly the situation of young people around the world will be reviewed, as well as the achievements attained in the implementation of the World Program of Action for Youth (WPAY) ten years after its adoption. But who can review the situation of young people better than young people themselves? The UN General Assembly has already recommended three times that Member States include a youth representative in their delegations, but unfortunately still only a few countries do so. You can find out if your country is sending a youth delegate by visiting the website of the UN Youth Program. Click here!

You can also find useful information there on how to become a youth delegate if your country is one of those that do not have a program to select youth delegates.

Global Gallery Contest "We Are What You Eat"

Everybody knows that you are what you eat - that what you consume doesn't only affect your wallet and your consciousness, it affects your health and well-being. Yet what you eat also impacts the world around you, and touches us all. The food we eat influences the environment around us, the air we breathe, the water we drink, the fields we run on, our economies, governmental policies, the way we share with others, the lives of workers and consumers alike. It's not just about nutrition and consumption, it's also about the people around you, everyday friends and invisible faraway faces without names.

Every time we eat, we are sharing our meals with many many people, well beyond those sitting at our table.

This month the Global Gallery invites you to create images representing the impact of what we eat; images of how you share your food with others, images of influence on the the massive world around us and of impact on our everyday experiences, and images showing how our world is affected and changing, in positive or negative ways, because of our eating habits.  Language as Violence, Violence as Language

TakingITGlobal and UNESCO invite you to contribute to a special creative publication through the submission of images and creative writings that interpret and express violence as a feeling, as language, and that explore alternative languages to violence. A limited selection of submissions will be chosen for the publication which will be produced in print and also made available online.

The goals of the publication are to spotlight the manifold forms of violence that young people encounter, perceive, and express in their daily social environment with the ultimate aim of actively exploring and developing alternative languages to violence. The primary objective is therefore to shed some light on the multiple dimensions of the causes, contents, nature, and consequences of violence(s). A vital step within this challenge is the understanding of the issues. Issues that are complex often lead to a difficult dialogue, with the overcoming of barriers as the first step in meeting the challenge of understanding people of different races, cultures, ethnicities, gender and backgrounds.
